"Before March of 2020 I had not heard of Manatee County Aging Network. Shortly after that a need arose among those on the frontlines of the Pandemic and that is when MCAN came alongside our valiant and successful effort to provide masks for those on the frontlines. Working with MCAN, we UNITED efforts as a Community with local Businesses willing to share their resources despite being closed, and hundreds of individuals in our Community. The Pittsburgh Pirates also came alongside our successful efforts in providing masks for those on the frontlines and those in Assisted Living Facilities. Beyond MCAN'S emergency response to our Communities needs for masks, I have since learned of their efforts coinciding with their Mission and Purpose to provide and connect services to our Community's Aging Population. It is an honor to be a part of this organization."

"A friend and colleague, Hope Carey, (who also happens to be the President of Manatee County Aging Network) asked me if I would be willing to help with volunteers on a mask making project last April (2020), for first responders.  I did, as I felt it was a very worthy cause.  After that project concluded in the Summer of 2020, I was asked to be on the board of MCAN.   We were all volunteers (cutters, sewists, pickup and delivery people, volunteer coordinators).  Everyone was so kind and willing to help one another to help our community, it just warmed my heart.  So in the Fall of 2020, I joined MCAN.  The shared comradery, the network connections, education and projects we are doing in our community to help the underserved seniors in Manatee County is both enriching and rewarding.  We are getting ready to launch a Dementia Care and Cure Initiative (DCCI) in Manatee County to make us a more “dementia friendly community” through education and outreach.  MCAN is an active group of professionals who all volunteer their time to improve the lives of the seniors in Manatee County.  I am proud to be part of this organization."

"MCAN is a great opportunity for professionals looking to get further involved in the community.  I have been able to make not only professional connections but true friends through MCAN. This would be a great organization for any professional to be a part of that does business in Manatee county. There are wonderful opportunities to network and get to know the resources available in our community. The people involved in this organization have the same goal behind what they do: to help those that need it.   I have loved my time working on the different projects through MCAN as well as helping my fellow members!"

PURPOSE:

"MCAN works alongside area nonprofits, and local for-profit businesses to IDENTIFY the resources available to meet the Aging Population Needs. We EDUCATE our MCAN MEMBERS and Community at large through hosting speakers in our MCAN Member Meetings, provide short videos, interview area resource staff, and use our social media platforms for the purpose of education on various topics and resources available. We also use our social media platforms to provide updates and notifications of upcoming Virtual and In-Person Fundraising Events and other area educational opportunities for the Aging Population and Caregivers. MCAN also provides an opportunity for professional networking and education through our monthly member meetings. Along with identifying the resources available in our community for the Aging Population we also ADVOCATE for the unmet needs of the Aging Population in a variety of ways. Whether MCAN is identifying, educating or advocating - our focus is working together to meet the needs of the Aging Population. Together we can make a difference.”
